Privacy Policy

RealNYCMap (“we”, “the service”) is a map and query tool for publicly available New York City property and related open data. This policy explains what we collect when you use realnycmap.com.

Information we collect

Account data — If you create a free account: display name, email address, and a hashed password. We use this to sign you in and save favorites and map layers to your user.
Session cookie — A small cookie identifies your browser session (including guest sessions before you register). It is HttpOnly and sent only over HTTPS.
Query history — SQL and Ask prompts you run may be stored so you can revisit them while signed in. Do not put secrets or personal data about other people into queries.
Usage analytics — We use a self-hosted Umami instance to see aggregate page views (no advertising cookies, no third-party ad trackers).
Server logs — Standard web/server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps, error messages) for security and reliability.

Property and map data

Parcel, deed, violation, school, and similar layers come from NYC open-data and public records sources. That data is not “your” personal information under this policy; it is published government data we host so you can explore it on a map.

How we use information

Operate the map, SQL/Ask console, favorites, and saved layers
Send email-verification and password-reset messages when you sign up or request a reset
Protect the service (rate limits, abuse investigation)
Understand aggregate traffic to improve the product

We do not sell your account data. We do not use your email for marketing lists.

Sharing

We may use infrastructure providers (hosting, email delivery) that process data solely to run the service. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the service and its users.

Retention

Account data stays until you ask us to delete it (or we close the service). Email-verification and password-reset tokens expire automatically. Logs and analytics are kept only as long as useful for operations.

Your choices

You can use much of the map without creating an account
You can log out anytime; request account deletion by emailing us
Password reset is available from the login page

Children

The service is not directed at children under 13. Do not create an account for a child under 13.
